8th Marcelino Botín Foundation-Manuel Valcárcel International Piano Composition Prize

The Marcelino Botín Foundation announces the 8th “Manuel Valcárcel” International Piano Composition Prize, in memory and recognition of Valcárcel’s invaluable work as an educator.

Conditions of entry

• The prize is open to all composers of any nationality there being no limit to the amount of works that may be submitted.
• The works, with a minimum duration of 10 minutes, shall be original, unpublished, unperformed in public and for unaccompanied piano.
• Six copies of the music should be provided under a pseudonym. The author’s personal details (name, address, telephone number and e-mail), photocopy of identity card or passport and brief CV should be enclosed in a sealed envelope. It would be very helpful if you could inform us, in the envelope with your personal data, about how you found out about our Call. Any candidate who breaks this rule of anonymity will be excluded.
• The deadline for presenting works will finalize on the 31st January 2009.

• The jury’s decision will be made public after 1st April 2009. The winner will be informed immediately. The rest of candidates may consult the result on the web site of the Fundación Marcelino Botín: www.fundacionmbotin.org
• There will be a single award of 12.000 euros*. The jury is allowed to end the prize without a winner.
• The winning composition will be premiered at the International Festival of Santander, and the original manuscript will be given to the Fundación Marcelino Botín that may public the music and record it.
• The authors of the winning works must include the following inscription on any recordings, editions and programmes in which the work is performed: Winner of the 8th “Manuel Valcárcel” International Composition Prize, sponsored by the Fundación Marcelino Botín, 2009.
• Non-winning entries will be returned, at the candidate’s request, until 1st June 2009. After this time, all unclaimed documentation will be destroyed.
• Participation in this Prize implies acceptance of the conditions of entry.
